How to add gold to your interior design

Christmas is coming and so are all things sparkly and shiny. However, there is no need to only have golden touches in your home over the festive period. Gold can work wonderfully as an accent colour throughout your home all year round.

Combine with dark colours

Gold works beautifully when combined with dark, rich colours, such as dark green. Be bold with your colour choices and you will be rewarded with a stylish and luxurious space.

Use texture

Ensure you have a variety of different textures that will offset the shiny, smooth gold details that you add. Velvet cushions, thick curtains and deep rugs will all help to add interest to your home.

Work in some wood

Gold combines well with natural wooden details. Use unpainted lighter coloured woods for chairs, stools, picture rails and shelves. The combination of natural materials and polished gold makes the space seem less formal and more homely, while still retaining the aesthetic appeal.

Small details

Gold is such a striking colour that you don’t need large pieces for it to make a difference to the overall look and feel of your home. Small details down to cupboard handles will create a striking effect without a large investment. Even ornaments, such as gold coloured vases, will add a touch of luxury without overpowering the space.

Gold features

There are some amazing ranges of feature wall paper with gold accents that will add a real focus to a room. Combining this with other small golden features will add a continuity to the design of the room and make the gold coloured features stand out.
